Bsal Fungus

Bsal Fungus stopped by the USFWS

Bsal fungus attacks salamanders Lay

The deadly Bsal fungus is 100% lethal to salamanders and was discovered in Asia in 2013.  The U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service established a restriction on importation and interstate transport of 201 species of salamanders that are susceptible to the fungus on January 28, 2016.  The U.S. is one of the richest places on Earth for salamanders, so there are a lot of species at risk of extinction if the Bsal gets loose here.  The 201 species that are now restricted are part of the salamander pet trade.
